FAQ’S
What is TAC Lite?
- A free support tier included with Netgate appliances.
- Covers basic setup, connectivity, and firmware updates.
- No subscription needed for Netgate appliance owners.
What happens when my TAC Lite subscription expires?
The firewall will continue to run without the ability to update. If you need to reinstall your operating system, you will be unable to migrate to any version of pfSense Plus from pfSense CE.
If the subscription expires, you will also not be able to update the packages you have installed.
How does TAC Lite differ from TAC PRO and TAC ENTERPRISE
Any request for assistance not included with TAC Lite will require a more comprehensive TAC subscription (PRO or ENTERPRISE). Netgate is not responsible for the configuration or functionality of third-party hardware such as wireless access points, and switches.
Will Netgate appliances require an annual subscription for TAC-Lite?
If you purchased a Netgate appliance, you automatically have TAC Lite that will remain active for the life of the appliance
What is the difference between pfSense and TNSR
At the highest level, pfSense is a comprehensive router, FW, and VPN solution - which competes head-to-head with UTM and NGFW type products from legacy commercial vendors including Cisco, Fortinet, Ubiquity, Untangle, and others. It is based on FreeBSD kernel packet processing. TNSR is a high-performance software router based on Linux and Vector Packet Processing (VPP).
TNSR is not positioned as a firewall and does not have the feature richness that comes with pfSense. But, it is significantly faster and more scalable for routing and IPsec traffic handling - making for an excellent edge router solution.
